Dear Friend:

I have requested your support in the past for the County Commission and for the Ohio House of Representatives, and I am asking for your support again. I am running for Commissioner in 2004 for the same reason I first ran for office back in 1974. I want to make a difference in the lives of families and children. This election is all about families and children and whether we as Republicans will continue to place them first in our priorities.

In my 30 years in public office, I have always stood up, spoken out and fought for the things we believe in. I intend to continue doing this for as long as I hold office. If I ever am unable or unwilling to stand up, speak out and fight for what I believe is right, I will step aside.

In my time on the Board of Commissioners since 1997, we have done the usual things, and we have done them well. Our sales tax rate is one of the lowest in Ohio - 85th of 88 counties - and our job growth has been second only to Franklin County, but, just being efficient bureaucrats is not enough.

I bring a passion to local government, working for changes that people witness in their lives. A good high-tech job means more than having a newer car and a bigger house. Good job opportunities mean you can raise and educate your kids well, and your kids can live well when they grow up and raise your grandchildren here if they choose.

A passion for people led us to start Ohio's first county Prescription Relief program. A passion for people has driven us to reorganize the Children Services Board, making it more responsive to family values. A passion for people has led us to enforce child support payments. A passion for people is behind our major support for law-enforcement.

And, yes, a passion for people has led me and a few other people to work to reform our Domestic Relations and Juvenile Courts. Anyone who has had the misfortune of being in those courts can tell you why we cannot just let the lawyers and the court staff tell us business as usual is just fine.

I am grateful for your support in the past, and I hope to have your support again. I look forward to the opportunity to meet and talk with you personally and explain why my service is good for you, your family, our community and the Republican Party.

Sincerely,

Michael A. Fox, Butler County Commissioner
